The only problem? The CBD is packed with cafes, and not knowing the best ones with coffee deals can have you winding up at Starbucks and paying a ridiculous amount for some ground up beans with milk.

To save you from being basic I’ve decided to put together a little list of the best cafes for studying so you can cram 12 weeks of study into one day, as well as some cheap coffee deals, because this is a coupon page, and we’re all about the deals.

Coffee Deals

Coffix – Cheap Coffee

If you don’t get your ‘on the way to a lecture’ coffee from Coffix you’re doing life wrong. Coffix is a chain of small cafes that primarily sell coffee, alongside a few goodies at an extremely cheap price. This isn’t even technically a deal as it’s just their everyday prices.

What: Pop in any day of the week and you’ll be treated to a $3 small and $4 large coffees anytime! Not only is that already cheap coffee, but you can get an extra coffee shot, syrup shot, or swap out cows milk for soy milk at no extra cost! Plus the staff are lovely, it’s just great vibes all round.

Where: Various

Wifi: No

Koffee Bar – Cheap Coffee

Sunflower Cafe (now Koffee Bar) is my go to, it’s a cute cafe located a 10-15 minute walk from uni that has lovely staff, and great cheap coffee. Koffee Bar also makes for a great study spot, it’s not overcrowded, has free Wifi, and comfy seating. What more could you want?

What: Pop in any day of the week and you can nab a small coffee for $3, or a regular for just $4! No longer do you need to pay $6 for a coffee at Starbucks.

Where: 34 Wyndham Street

Wifi: Yes.

Coffee Club – VIP Club

Eggs Benedict and coffee from Coffee Club, Auckland CBD
Two for one coffees means more money for food right? Credit: Zomato

I know what you’re thinking, Coffee Clubs are normally quite overpriced, and you’re right, but they also offer some comfy seating, free wifi, and their membership program means you can get some real cheap coffee.

What: For just $25 a year you can buy one hot drink and get one entirely FREE, every single day, effectively making a coffee cost as low as a couple dollars! Perfect if you’re constantly studying with a friend, or have a big study sesh ahead of you. Not only this, but you can nab 10% off all food Monday-Wednesdays, as well as gain access to other local store offers. For more info you can visit: https://www.thecoffeeclub.co.nz/vip-club/about-the-vip-club/

Where: Various

Wifi: Yes

Hollywood Bakery & Espresso – Free/$1 Muffin

Ah yes, the cafe chain of everyone’s childhood. I know they’re not the coolest cafe, but they do a great deal, and that’s what matters.

What: This deal varies Hollywood to Hollywood, but generally when you purchase any sized coffee, which is already decently priced, you’ll nab a muffin either for FREE or for just ONE DOLLAR, making the combo cost as little as $4 or $5!

Where: Various

Wifi: Yes

Le Petit Cafe – Cheap Coffee

If you don’t know what Le Petit Cafe is, you must be from the shore, because it’s the first thing you see when you get off the train at Britomart as you think to yourself, “can I order a coffee and still make the next lights.”

What: Just like Coffix, Le Petit Cafe uses their small shop size (basically a food truck) to focus on selling cheap coffee to the masses. You can get a good cheap coffee on-the-go for as low as $2.50 (espresso), with a large just costing you $4! You literally can’t beat it.

Where: 12 Queen Street

Wifi: No

McDonald’s – App Coupons

Don’t pretend like you’re not going on a cheeky Maccies run in the next month. I’m just here to prep you with the coupons to save money.

What: In case you didn’t know, McDonald’s offers coupons via their mobile app, and if that isn’t the best news you’ve ever heard I don’t know what is. The coupons change regularly, but a few staples include a Bacon & Egg McMuffin with a medium coffee for $7, a cheeseburger with a small coffee for $5, and an apple pie with a small coffee for $5, absolute steals.

Where: Various

Wifi: Yes

Mojo Coffee – App Discount

I’m adding this one for the UoA students. I know you’re going to find yourself at Mojo when you’re running late or trying to find a will to live.

What: This deal isn’t the greatest in the world, but going to Mojo at uni is inevitable. To save you a bit of money, simply download the Mojo Coffee app, signup, and present your account at the counter to nab 10% off all hot drinks. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.

Best Study Spots

The coolest cafe in Auckland. Credit: Remedy Coffee.

Remedy Coffee

Remedy Coffee is potentially the coolest cafe in the CBD. Great food (their wraps really hit the spot), good coffee, a heap of board games, feel good music, and even an arcade machine, Remedy is an absolute treat! Located on the corner of Wellesley St West, literally a 2 minute walk from AUT, you wouldn’t expect such a snazzy place to exist. Grab a coffee, play a game of scrabble (study) on the couch and just unwind. The only problem, it is a small cafe, you just got to be in quick and make sure you don’t visit at peak times!

Where: 1 Wellesley Street West

Wifi: Yes

The Raw Kitchen

On face value The Raw Kitchen doesn’t look like much, but hear me out. When you first walk inside you’ll assume it’s a small vegan takeaway, but if you venture up the spiral stairs you’ll find a big, open, super minimal room, perfect for studying. There’s a couple great big couches with wall outlets nearby, and a great big table for all your supplies. This cafe is genuinely a great escape from the city while still being nestled nearby university. On top of this they offer delicious and nutritious food, as well as the sweet nectar that is coffee. If you’re wanting peace and quiet, with a gram worthy atmosphere, The Raw Kitchen is it chief.

Where: 90 Wellesley Street West

Wifi: Yes

PW Cafe

Picture of coffee from PW Cafe, Auckland CBD
These may be some of the sexiest coffees out. Credit: Zomato.

PW Cafe (formally Gloria Jeans and Alberobello) was my absolute go to while at university. Located on High St, it’s a small walk from uni, making it perfect for a quick hour in-between lectures. The homely upstairs atmosphere of PW Cafe makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a cosy suburb. When you first walk in, you’ll find a super unassuming small cafe, but once you’ve placed your order, pop upstairs and you’ll find a big room filled with different types of seating dependent on your vibe. If you’ve got a spare hour and you want a good coffee with some hard study, look no further than PW Cafe.

Where: 1b/47 High Street

Wifi: Yes

Gloria Jeans, Lorne St

Gloria Jeans on Lorne St is genuinely one of the nicest and biggest cafes I’ve seen in New Zealand. I know it’s a chain and a little overpriced, but that doesn’t takeaway from the fact that it is the ultimate study spot. If you venture to the back of the cafe you’ll find a large area with plenty of different seating, perfect for any situation, whether you’re grabbing a coffee, or setting up shop to study for a few hours. To help sweeten the coffee deals, students can nab 10% off, so make sure you have your student ID at the ready!

Where: Shope 9-10 Khartoum Place, Lorne Street

Wifi: Yes

The Kimchi Project

Picture of the Kimchi Project courtyard, Auckland CBD
Me, you, this courtyard, and 12 weeks of course content, it’s a date. Credit: The Denizen.

The Kimchi Project from face value looks like your run of the mill modern cafe, but it has an unassuming poor kept secret out back. Located on Lorne Street not far from uni, you wouldn’t expect much from a cafe on a skinny street, but if you venture past the counter and through the cafe into the restaurant you’ll find one of the best courtyards in town! This courtyard is filled with light from the clear ceiling and surrounded by nature, absolutely perfect for studying! On top of this, their food is absolutely delicious, shout out to the pasta.

Where: 20 Lorne Street

Wifi: Yes

Best Tips And Tricks On Scoring Cheap Petrol /blog/discounts/best-tips-and-tricks-on-scoring-cheap-petrol/ /blog/discounts/best-tips-and-tricks-on-scoring-cheap-petrol/#respond Wed, 08 Apr 2020 22:00:32 +0000 /?p=4620 Insider tips for how to score the cheapest petrol in New Zealand.

2020 is off to a rough start guys, the past couple months have been absolutely wild to say the least.

However, it’s always best to look on the bright side of life, and there is one good thing to come from all of this, petrol is now somewhat affordable again! Travel restrictions and shutdowns due to the virus have caused petrol prices to absolutely plummet, being about 33 cents cheaper than it was a couple weeks ago (I’m writing this on the 19th of March) and the cheapest it’s been in years! So I’ve decided to celebrate with a list of tips and tricks to help you get fuel at its absolute cheapest, as this will probably be the last time you’ll see it below $2 a litre.

Use Z App’s Sharetank Feature And Stock Up On Fuel NOW

z sharetank

Petrol has never been so cheap, if only there was a way to buy a huge amount of fuel at these cheap prices and use it over time? Spoiler, there is.

What: New to the Z App is the life changing feature Sharetank, which allows you to buy up to 1000 litres of each type of fuel (91, diesel, and premium) at the best current price within a 30km radius! This is perfect for those who live in the city, but don’t want to pay city fuel prices, knocking an extra 10 cents off per litre. To redeem the fuel you simply scan the QR code in the app instead of using traditional payments. You can even share the Sharetank (hence the name) with friends and family so everyone can chip in! Making this the ultimate feature for road trips or carpools.

Use Petrol Company Apps To Get Free Stuff And Save Money On Fuel

aa smart fuel

Apps are amazing guys, they help you manage your entire life in one place. Companies want you to use their apps so they lure you by offering freebies, and I’m okay with that.

What: Firstly, by downloading petrol apps you can store all your discount cards on the app, so you can easily scan it at the counter, keep track of your stored discount amount and when it expires.

Here’s a couple apps that offer a little extra

  1. Z App – If you simply download the Z App, you get a free barista made hot beverage, nab an instant 10 cents off per litre, and you gain $5 off a car wash! On top of the amazing Sharetank, of course.
  2. Caltex App – Download the Caltex app to receive an instant 6 cents off per litre!

Use Fuel Apps That Locate The Cheapest Petrol Stations

So many times I’ll go to a petrol station, just to find out 5 minutes later that I could’ve saved an extra 10 cents per litre if I just went to a different station. Luckily there are now apps to help you save!

What: There are now free apps in the marketplace (I use Gaspy) that after entering your location, fuel type and specifying the distance you’re wanting to search, you can now find the absolute cheapest petrol stations around! It works by members sharing the updated price of a petrol location to help you save money.

Stack Your Petrol Savings

z and Caltex pumped

Whenever you visit a petrol station, you most likely full up, swipe, get your 6 cent discount and call it a day. What if I told you, that you no longer have to settle for a simple $1 savings, because you can stack up your 6 or 10 cent discount and save a ridiculous amount.

What: As mentioned, fuel apps now offer the amazing option of stacking your discounts, meaning you no longer have to redeem just 6 cents off per litre. Instead you can save it for next time and build up your total discount until you’re ready to redeem.

The best way to do this

  1. Top up the minimum amount you need to stack ($40)
  2. Stack that amount, and continue to do so till you’re near the expiry date of your points
  3. Fill it up, and watch that $100 bill go down to $80 like nothing. This is actually the most satisfying thing in the world, I swear.

Wait For Higher Discount Days

This one is quite simple, if you read the last tip in this blog you’ll know that there can be a massive difference between saving 6 cents per litre, and saving that beautiful tenner.

What: Every few days, or at least once a week the petrol stations will be running ‘Discount Day’ where you can save 10 cents off per litre! Waiting for these days to fuel up, especially when you’re stacking the discounts can help you save serious money. I highly recommend keeping enough petrol so you can make it to discount day! Simply subscribe to their mailers to get 1-2 days notice of when they’re doing discounts.

Don’t Fuel Up In Auckland Or Rural Towns

If there’s anything to take from this blog, it’s that petrol companies are extremely crafty and have a monopoly on all of us. The least we can do is avoid giving them as much money as possible, and that’s where this next tip comes in.

What: Ah, the almighty Auckland fuel tax a hefty 11.5 cents added onto our already expensive prices, you’d think we have it the worst, but we don’t. Rural towns have it worse a lot of the time, which can really screw you over when you’re on a road trip. By simply ensuring you fuel up in a semi-major town or making it out of the Auckland region first you can save 10 or 20 cents off per litre just like that. Just make sure you use apps like Gaspy to see the nearest prices to make your journey smarter!

11 Must-Have Gadgets for Uni Students /blog/discounts/11-must-have-gadgets-for-uni-students/ /blog/discounts/11-must-have-gadgets-for-uni-students/#respond Mon, 02 Mar 2020 22:45:28 +0000 /?p=3053 WHETHER YOU WANT TO SAVE TIME, STAY TIDY, OR JUST SHOW OFF.

Whether you’re an ex-Year 13 fresh out of high school or a senior citizen who’s a seasoned pro at university life, you’re no doubt eager to upgrade your living area with some much-needed comforts. Fortunately, with all the incredible technology available to us in 2020, even the drabbest area can be turned into a functional and stylish space.

Check out these 11 incredible gadgets that will help you make the most of your living space (+ the cheaper alternatives).

1. Bose QuietComfort 35 II Headphones ($498)

When you’re living away from home, there are all sorts of noises you want to block out. Whether you’re trying to get Really Important Stuff done in a public library, at Uni or in your own room, a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones can make a big difference.

But often, finding a quiet place can be harder than you think. I mean, universities are supposed to be social after all, and that’s great! Until you realize you’ve got a 2,000-word essay due tomorrow that you’re a little lot behind on (feels…).

Not only are Bose’s QuietComfort 35 II headphones ultra comfy, they’ve got loads of little smart controls and connectivity features which make them even better, and worth the hefty price tag imo.

2. TaoTronics Metal LED Desk Lamp ($110)

A good, sturdy desk lamp is a necessity for late night work and study sessions. And this desk lamp by TaoTronics does more than just shine a light on your studies.

  1. It’s small and doesn’t get in the way, so you can throw around your papers as much as you like.
  2. It has a tough metal frame, so you can throw around your papers as much as you like.
  3. It offers six different brightness levels, so you can thr adjust the ambience to your roommate’s level of comfort. Cos you know, you don’t want to hurt the roomie relationships so early on.

You’d be hard-pressed to find another desk lamp that does what this one can, all with a minimalist aesthetic!

Alternatively, try: TW Lighting IVY LED Desk Lamp ($27)

3. Steamfast SF-717 Mini Steam Iron ($36)

We don’t often have room for a full ironing board + iron set, and even if there was, not many of us would have the time or patience to use it. Hell, I know I wouldn’t.

So keep your clothes looking their best with what may be a serious contender for the world’s smallest steaming iron, the Steamfast SF-717 Mini. But don’t let that fool you, because its actually quite a suitable alternative to the real, bigger thing. It’s compact, travel-friendly and takes only a minute to heat up!

Go on then, blast hot steam at your clothes. You may be able to remove wrinkles that are deeper and more stubborn than the ones your great-great-grandma has.

4. Choetech Wireless Charger ($20)

Sometimes the most essential gadgets are the ones that seem the simplest. You know, when it’s super late, you’ve just gotten home from a crazy night out and you really can’t think of anything better than just crashing on the sofa, plugging in your phone can seem like a chore (ikr, first world problems).

A wireless charger solves that problem! Charging will start pretty much as soon as the phone makes contact with the pad – you don’t even need to be that accurate. This particular wireless charger from Choetech is dirt cheap and works with both Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models, as well as many other Qi-protocol compatible devices. It can even charge a Blackberry, that is, if they exist anymore?

So set one up beside your bed, get another one for the kitchen, and trust me, you’ll be very grateful for it.

5. Itaki Pro Portable Electric Lunchbox ($50)

A portable electric lunchbox, as you will quickly learn, is a hungry uni student’s best friend. Why? Because you can cook an incredible variety of meals inside it just by following some basic instructions, dumping some ingredients inside, and switching it on.

It’s ideal for a no-fuss, fix-and-forget meal that may resemble something your mum might make back at home. It’s bento-style as well, so plenty of room for veggies, meats, rice, side dishes, whatever!

Whether you want to cook from scratch or just throw together something half-decent from last night’s leftovers, the Itaki Pro electric lunchbox can do it whenever and wherever you want (well, anywhere with a power outlet, at least).

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of you took this to a lecture or something.

6. AdirChef Grab N’ Go Personal Coffee Maker ($35)

Calling all coffee lovers! Never pay $5 for a cup of coffee again with AdirChef’s personal coffee maker. If you’re the kind of person who can’t function without their daily dose of caffeine, this one’s for you.

Not only is this coffee maker practical but also eco-friendly as it’s fitted with a permanent filter, eliminating the need for paper filters. And once the cup is full, the coffee maker automatically shuts off to save power. All of which is of course very important in this day and age!

But that’s not all: it also comes with a travel mug – a godsend for those 8ams that you signed up for because you wanted to give yourself the illusion of productivity.

7. AmazonBasics Security Safe Box ($94)

Ladies, we’ve all been there – stashing things into your bra can seem like the only safe way to hold onto your valuables in a world full of pickpockets (not to mention all those drunken nights). It doesn’t help that 99% of dresses don’t have pockets either!

Even if you trust your fellow roommates or your building has a prison-like security system, an electronic safe will give you that much-needed peace of mind when you’re away from your room. Keep your passports, documents, extra cash, and other valuables tucked away securely so you don’t ever have to worry that someone is gonna steal your precious things.

Alternatively, try: Yuanshikj Electronic Deluxe Digital Safe Box ($44)

8. Eufy RoboVac 11S ($268)

Halls and apartments are known for many things, but cleanliness and hygiene probably aren’t at the top of that list.

Who needs to vacuum with their own two hands when your own robot can ‘touch-up’ vacuum for you, and that too without using any hands. Eufy’s RoboVac will keep your floors clean from lolly wrappers, stray crumbs, eraser rubbings and all the other junk that accumulates over the course of a stressful uni week.

Start a cleaning session by pressing the button on the top, or alternatively program it to do a daily sweep while you and your roommates are getting GongCha in a lecture. Just make sure you don’t set it to start its cleaning cycle remotely unless you know for a fact that there’s no vomit on the floor…..eugh.

Alternatively, try: ILIFE V3s Pro Robot Vacuum ($200)

9. AstroAI Mini Fridge ($65)

Keep a few cold drinks and snacks on hand with a personal mini fridge from AstroAI. This pint-sized refrigerator fits easily on a desk or drawer, so it’s handy in cramped rooms where every inch of precious space counts. And the same goes for transporting it outside the home, where it claims to stay cool for several hours after it has been turned off.

Perhaps you’d like to keep your favorite snacks stashed near your bed – you know, for easy access during those late-night study sessions. Or perhaps you’d like to keep your beauty essentials in tip-top condition (after all, a skincare routine isn’t something to be taken lightly!)

10. Anko Egg Cooker ($19)

Let’s be real for a minute. You’re a uni student – that means you don’t want to step outside of your room at 6am in the morning just so you can grab some sub-par cuisine. But we all know that brekkie is the most important meal of the day, so surely something can be done to fuel your body with some better, healthier food.

Fear not! Egg cooker to the rescue. This particular one can hold up to six eggs and cooks soft, medium or hard boiled eggs, whichever you like! No need to muck around with a saucepan or pot, just throw some eggs and water in and boil to your liking for a quick protein-rich snack. (On second thought, probably don’t throw them).

11. Tile Mate ($25)

Hmm. You know you’ve thrown the keys in your room somewhere…but where exactly? If you’re the kind of person always losing stuff everywhere (hello, it me), then this little device would be nothing short of a lifesaver.

Attach the Tile Mate keyring to your oft-lost-item of choice, and you can use the app to locate it if when you lose it. And these things are loud too. If your Tile is anywhere near when you activate the sound, there is no way you’re going to miss the sound, unless you’re quite literally passed out or in Stage 99 deep-sleep mode.

Perhaps the best feature of all, if you’ve got your keys (finally) but can’t find your phone, hitting the button on the Tile Mate keyring will make your phone ring even when it’s on silent (when is it not, tho?). Amazing!

Get it here

Did we miss anything? Good luck with 2020 as we head into the beginning of Semester 1.

The Best Valentine’s Day Deals For Those On A Budget /blog/discounts/the-best-valentines-day-deals-for-those-on-a-budget/ /blog/discounts/the-best-valentines-day-deals-for-those-on-a-budget/#respond Wed, 12 Feb 2020 00:01:00 +0000 /?p=3130 As Valentine’s Day is approaching fast, I’ve begun to see SO many events on social media popping up advertising extravagant evenings at absolutely ridiculous prices. It’s as if the world forgot we’re not all on six figure salaries, go figure

Cheap Deals You Must Know In 2020 /blog/discounts/cheap-deals-you-must-know-in-2020/ /blog/discounts/cheap-deals-you-must-know-in-2020/#respond Mon, 03 Feb 2020 22:00:00 +0000 /?p=3153 NEW YEAR, NEW YOU? THESE STUDENT DEALS WILL HELP YOU STICK TO THOSE NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.

Happy New Year beautiful people! Hope you’ve had an amazing break and you’re ready to focus on what 2020 has in store. With the new year brings new goals and aspirations for a lot of us, but unfortunately they don’t always go to plan (rip beach body). Because of this I’ve decided to look into cheap deals that’ll help you stick to your resolutions, whether it be healthy eating, exercise, or meat-free diets. Even if you don’t stick to these goals, at least you spent as little money as possible!

Vegetarian/Vegan Diets

Here’s a small list of my go-to vegetarian/vegan eateries to get you started on this wholesome diet. This list of course is both delicious and cheap.

1. Sunflower Thai

Boy, oh boy, Sunflower Thai holds a special place in my heart. This Thai restaurant has to be one of the most wholesome places on earth. Situated on High St in the CBD, they serve some of the best Thai food I’ve had, period. Not only this, but your standard mains, are only about $14-16, and you don’t have to worry about being served a hunk of tofu, they make unbelievably tasty fake meat for their dishes!

DEAL: To make this place unbelievably cheap, you can nab a Buy ONE get ONE FREE on food with Zomato Gold!

Where: 6/50 High Street, Auckland CBD

2. Raw Power

Raw Power is the ultimate brekkie spot for vegetarians/vegans, I’m telling ya. Located up some stairs in Vulcan Lane, you will be treated to very well priced brunch type dishes that are oh-so delicious. Now, you have two options for an amazing meal, you can either load yourself up a plate from the salad bar, or order from the menu. Regardless of what you order, you’ll only be paying between $8.90-17.90 a dish! I cannot recommend this place enough, especially their ‘Tofu Hash Mushroom’, they genuinely make one of the best hash browns in the world.

Where: 10 Vulcan Lane, Auckland CBD

3. The Burgerie

Burgers and fries, what more could you want from life? The Burgerie is a classic takeaway burger bar located on K Road, that I’d recommend for those that are struggling to make the transition. They serve up a wide range of delicious fried goods, that even the biggest carnivores will love, and best part, it’s so cheap! With delicious burgers for as little as $6 alongside things like fries and onion rings, this is definitely a spot that’ll put you in a food coma.

Where: 95 Karangahape Road, Auckland CBD

4. Indian Restaurants

This next one has no specific location, I just thought we should all spend a moment appreciating the entire mainstream Indian cuisine. The fact you can get curries with rice for less than $10, or a curry with rice, naan, and a drink for a single Kate Shepard ($10) is absolutely absurd. Better yet, usually vegetarian/vegan curries are cheaper than those with meat, and in a lot of cases the meat is the only thing stopping a tasty dish from being vegetarian! So if your wallet is feeling the pinch, or you want to eat something with familiarity, stop by your local Indian takeaway for a treat.

5. Bowl and Arrow

Bowl and Arrow

Okay, smoothie bowls get a lot of bad publicity, but don’t listen to the haters. They are absolutely delicious, good for you, look amazing, and yeah of course they have sugar, it’s fruit. Out of all the smoothie bowl eateries, Bowl and Arrow has to be my favourite. They use the absolute best ingredients, put a heap of love into it, and most importantly, they have a coupon.

DEAL: Nab a hot coffee of any size for just $3 on Wednesdays!

Where: 228 Orakei Road, Remuera and 277/309 Broadway, Newmarket.

Gym Memberships

Gym memberships can sometimes cost a fortune, luckily there’s a few out there that won’t get in between your goals and wallet.

1. Uni Gyms

These gyms only apply to university students so if you’re not one, keep on scrolling. Signing up to a uni gym is a smart choice, it’s ridiculously cheap, and I mean it’s in the same location as where you’re attending classes (if you attend). Most uni gyms also offer group fitness classes, the only downside is they’re not open 24/7, but I doubt you’ll be craving a gym session at 2am so they’re still a quality option.

If you’re not based in Auckland, don’t worry, your uni almost definitely has a gym you can sign up to, I just didn’t want to spam 10 links.

2. City Fitness

City Fitness

City Fitness is both the fastest growing and absolute cheapest weekly payment gym around! With over 30 gyms around New Zealand that are open 24/7 and have the newest gym equipment around, you can’t go wrong.

Now there’s a few options in terms of memberships depending on what your goals are.

  1. Nab a membership for just $7 a week on a 12 month plan
  2. Jump on an open term plan for $12 a week
  3. Open term plan, attend group fitness classes, bring a friend during business hours, use unlimited WiFi, use the massage chairs, and even get a free gym bag for just $14 a week!

3. Jetts Fitness

Jetts is another cheapie 24/7 gym that won’t break the bank and is located throughout New Zealand with over 50 clubs, so wherever you are you can get a good workout. Not only does your membership give you access to the gyms in New Zealand, but you can also visit any of the Jetts in Australia and Thailand (you know, because reasons).

Jetts has your typical gym equipment, weight machines, free weights, a heap of cardio equipment, boxing bags, and depending on the location, fitness classes. Now, there’s a couple weekly payment options to choose from, you can either be on an

  1. Open-term, cancel anytime plan for just $12.95 a week
  2. Minimum 12 month term plan for just 9.95 a week!
  3. Pay up front and nab 12 months for just $470, which is a low $9 a week!

DEAL: If you join Jetts at the moment there’s no joining fee (saving $49), and you get your first two weeks free!

4. Social Sport Teams

If going to the gym isn’t really your thing, but you still want to work on your fitness, perhaps a more enjoyable form is a social sporting team! A social team is a sports team that still competes against other teams, but in a more friendly, less serious manner. There’s social teams across almost every sport and town and they’re usually pretty cheap!

You’ll be looking at around $10 a game, and you’ll have a lot of fun while still getting a great workout. Just search for the sport you’re after with your location in Google and heaps of results will appear!

5. Gym Trials

Les Mills Gym Trial

If you’re really on struggle street but still want to get those gains, I have the trick for you. Luckily there’s countless gyms that offer free trials, but who said anything about actually joining?

You can practically visit every gym in New Zealand, sign up to a trial (maybe use a fake email address/phone number), get those gains, and then move onto the next one. Here is a link to the best free gym trials in Auckland!

Healthy Eating

Eating healthy can be an absolute struggle. Here’s a few options that are healthy, tasty, and well priced to help you on your journey!

1. Foodprint

Foodprint is my absolute favourite app on the marketplace, combining my three passions, saving money, eating delicious food, and helping the environment. The way it works is that local cafes and eateries around Auckland (so far) can post leftover food or beverages on the app that will go to waste at 50-90% off!

I’ve been to so many eateries that are usually too expensive and had some amazing meals at a fraction of the price through Foodprint, reducing waste and methane emissions in the process!

2. Habitual Fix

Habitual Fix is the alternative cousin of Subway and Pita Pit, offering sandwiches, wraps, salads, pitas, noodles, smoothies, juices, and even bagels!Basically anything you could ever want. They use fresh, healthy, and delicious ingredients, and are absolutely perfect for an on-the-go lunch. Fortunately they also are offering a limited time deal through Groupon!

DEAL: Until the 29th of February you can nab any wrap, sandwich, or salad for just $7.99. This can save you up to $4.51 or 36% off! Simply click here to nab this deal.

3. Poke Bowls

Poke Bowls

Poke bowls are perhaps the biggest craze since bubble tea to hit the foodie scene, and for good reason. They’re one of the healthiest ‘fast foods’ out, offering fresh and tasty ingredients not lathered in fat, and better yet, they’re well priced.

Ha! Poke located at UoA is priced at just $8.50! It is then up to you to add any extras like meat, avocado, etc (which are decently priced themselves.) Each bowl you can either have salad or rice, which are then stacked with ingredients like edamame, pickled ginger, cucumber, kimchi, radish, and finished with delicious authentic sauces. I got hungry just writing this.

4. Tank

Tank Juice

Tank is a staple and now offers a couple smoothie specials every week!

DEAL: For just $5.90 you can nab the Tank classic smoothie of the week, or if you’re feeling fancy you can get the fancy premium tank of the week for just $6.90! The flavours change each week via Instagram. so be sure to stay tuned. UoA students can also nab a Half Tank Nutra Blast for $6.50 via the Niesh App.

5. Revive Cafe

Revive is the classic healthy lunch spot in the CBD. Although it’s vegetarian/vegan you definitely won’t miss the meat or dairy with their ever changing delicious menu.

Each week you can choose from about 7 different salads, 2 different smoothies, 2 different hot pots ranging from curries to casseroles, and a special of the day such as a chicken burrito or cannelloni. As delicious as this all sounds it is also well priced at $9 to $15.

DEAL: If you’re a student you’re in luck. Simply sign up to their mailer, include your valid student ID, and you’ll be sent your virtual Revive Student Card! With this you can nab $11 large, $9 regular, or $7 small boxes, making lunch extremely affordable.

Top 8 FREE Christmas Activities In 2019 /blog/discounts/top-8-free-christmas-activities-in-2019/ /blog/discounts/top-8-free-christmas-activities-in-2019/#respond Mon, 02 Dec 2019 01:57:00 +0000 /?p=3418 GRAB YOUR MATES, GET FESTIVE, AND SPEND LITTLE TO NO MONEY.

December is here, and with it brings Christmasy and summery events, with a cool looking Santa wearing a pair of shades downing a Coke, as the unofficial mascot.

Because of this, and in wake of the Christmas parade, I’ve deep dived to fish out the many free things you can do over the summer holidays.

I’ve decided to miss out a few obvious ones, such as the damn beach, or going on a road trip with your friends. What’s left is a bunch of legitimately exciting events, which for the most part are entirely free!

1. Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park

On the 14th of December, the Auckland Domain is turned into the most festive place in New Zealand. With what feels like every musician in New Zealand performing many of their own hits, as well as a ton of Christmas songs, it’s a fun time. Add on the amazing sun and food trucks at your disposal, this could be a wholesome time & relaxing night with family or mates.

Where: Auckland Domain.
When: 14th of December, 7.30pm.
Cost:
Free!
More Info: https://www.coke.co.nz/christmas-in-the-park

2. Movies in Parks

Auckland Council Movies in Parks

Auckland Council has become an absolute king of fun free events over the summer holidays, starting with the amazing Movies in Parks. These free movie events are located all around Auckland so you don’t have to travel 30kms to take part!

Starting at 6.30pm there’ll be entertainment for the family, with food stalls for those who have stomachs (you can also take your own wholesome picnic). At 8.30pm-ish, or when the sunsets, the movie will begin! Some of the upcoming movies include Toy Story 4, Detective Pikachu, Spiderman, among many others.

Where: Various.
When: 24th of January – 18th of April, entertainment starts at 6.30pm, movie around 8.30pm.
Cost:
Free
More Info: http://www.moviesinparks.co.nz/

3. Silo Park, Summer at Silo Park

Silo Park offers a wide variety of activities to partake in. Pop on down to see a wide variety of movies like Aladdin and Rocketman, complete with food stalls prior. There’s also funky markets dedicated to ice cream sundaes, dogs, and much more!

On top of this, there’s a special Christmas edition on the 20th-23rd of December. This event includes DJs, a movie, festive food, drinks, Santa photos, and a lot more. And you know what the best part is? All of this is free! Bar the food and drinks of course.

Where: Corner of Beaumont and Jellicoe Street, Auckland CBD.
When: Christmas Special: 20th of December, 5pm & Summer Season: 3rd of January – 27th of March.
Cost:
Free (unless you buy food)

4. Music in Parks

Auckland Council Music in Parks

I get that you’re probably tired of everything being in a park, but welcome to New Zealand summer. Just like Movies in Parks, Music in Parks follows a similar route, free concerts (25 to be exact) scattered around many parks!

Where: Various
When: 12th of January – 11th of April.
Cost:
Free
More Info: http://musicinparks.co.nz/

5. Franklin Road, MOTAT, Karaka Lake Christmas Lights

Franklin Road

Who doesn’t love a giant snowman on someone’s lawn? I’m gonna run through three of the absolute best Christmas light displays in Auckland.

  • Franklin Road: Starting at 7.30pm every night from NOW till Christmas day, you can take a stroll and catch the amazing Franklin Road lights till 11pm! This is definitely the most popular of all the light shows so expect a massive crowd, but for good reason. Almost every single house on both sides of the road partake in this event and absolutely dress their house in some of the prettiest and wackiest lights around.
  • MOTAT: To break away from the traditional Christmas light viewings look no further than MOTAT’s Christmas Lights Nights. Beginning on the 13th of December till the 24th, the museum will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland with live music, movies, food, a light tunnel (whatever that is, it sounds cool), along with much more! There is a $2 entry fee for adults with this one, but it is well worth it!
  • Karaka Lakes: This one is extremely similar to Franklin Road, with houses being absolutely dressed to impress, but instead of being limited to the one street, these lights are all around the Karaka Lakes area. Because of this, it’s probably best if you view these lights via the pleasure of your own car while driving through the area. You can catch these lights sporadically throughout December, and they’ve already started!

Where: Franklin Road, Ponsonby; MOTAT: 805 Great North Road, Western Springs; Karaka Lakes, Karaka.
When: Franklin Road (1st – 25th of December, 7.30pm-11pm); MOTAT (13th – 24th of December, 8pm-11pm); Karaka Lakes (5th – 8th, 12th – 15th, and 18th – 24th of December, 9pm-10pm).
Cost:
$2 for MOTAT, the rest are free!

6. Vector Lights – Christmas Edition

Vector Lights - Christmas Edition

I don’t know whose idea it was to chuck 90,000 lights on the Harbour Bridge, but I am definitely not complaining. Watching one of the Vector Light shows is perfect for a cute evening out with friends, or a more friendlier friend (wink emoji).

The theme for this show is the ’12 Days of a Kiwi Christmas’, which is a typical countdown story of Christmas with a Kiwi twist. The show repeats every 15 minutes, so pop down to a good viewing spot anytime within that 3 hour time.

Where: Harbour Bridge, but you should definitely park somewhere with a good view, don’t drive over the bridge please.
When: 13th – 24th of December, 9pm-12am.
Cost:
Free.
More Info: https://www.vector.co.nz/about-us/sponsorship/lights

7. Takapuna Summer Days Festival

With summer in full swing come January, why not start your Saturday off right with a daytime festival in Takapuna? With music, beach, food, and sun in the mix, what more could you want?

Takapuna is hosting a festival full of music, circus performances, and magic shows, while being posted next to the beautiful Takapuna beach. It’ll be an absolute scorcher of a day (I hope at least), so the food trucks at the festival will be an absolute treat, with ice cream at the ready.

Where: Takapuna Beach, The Strand, Takapuna, Auckland.
When: 19th of January, 11am-7pm.
Cost:
Free.

The Cheapest Wings in NZ /blog/discounts/the-cheapest-wings-in-nz/ /blog/discounts/the-cheapest-wings-in-nz/#respond Mon, 04 Nov 2019 01:13:00 +0000 /?p=3908 CHICKEN WINGS ARE A FOOD LOVER’S DREAM. HERE ARE 14 DIRT CHEAP DEALS TO MAKE YOU DROOL.

Chicken wings are a food lover’s dream. Not only are they absolutely delicious, come in many different flavours, and practically go with everything, but they are more or less the cheapest thing on the menu at a restaurant (big yes).

I wanted to take this a step further and hunt down the absolute cheapest wings in Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington (sorry rest of NZ, I’m only one person).

Auckland

1. The Culpeper – $1 Wing Mondays

This is definitely the fancy boi of the list, located down on the waterfront you’ll forget that you’re paying a gold coin for wings. The Culpeper also specialises in barbecued meat, so you know that you’re in for some amazing food while you soak up the view.

What: Pop on down anytime from 6pm on a Monday to nab delicious wings for only $1 a pop. Easy as that, no limits, no other purchases need to be made, you can just enjoy some fine wings as you try to remember why you don’t like Mondays. Bookings are recommended though, so get in quick!

Where: 143-147 Princes Wharf, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010

2. Danny Doolans – 25c Wing Fridays

Danny Doolans is the pubiest pub in the CBD hands down, so you know damn straight they’re not only offering you the cheapest of food, but that it’s going to be super hearty and comforting, which is the absolute best.

What: This deal is actually insane. Every Friday Danny Doolans has 3kgs of delicious buffalo wings on offer between the hours of 5pm-8pm. The price you ask? 25c EACH. That’s 12 wings (basically a meal) for just $3! You really have to be in quick to make the most of this deal before they sell out for the day.

Where: 204 Quay St, West, Auckland 1010

3. Franc’s – $1 Wing Mondays

Franc's Fried Chicken

I couldn’t forget you guys over on the shore, especially an amazing eatery like Franc’s. Posted up on the beachside of Takapuna, you’re in for the most tranquil wings experience of your life.

What: Drop in anytime on a Monday and you can nab Franc’s XXL wings at just $1 each! With choices between plain, hot sauce, or honey soy, you’re in for an absolute treat. You do have to purchase a drink to be eligible for this cracking deal, but as summer approaches and as its situated right next to the beach, I don’t think that’ll be a problem.

Where: The Strand, Takapuna, Auckland 0622

4. Flying Burrito Brothers – 2-4-1 Wing Wednesdays

I mean, I know it’s a Mexican restaurant (a delicious one at that), but you can’t judge a book by its cover. Plus you can never turn down a spicy deal.

What: Pop on down to the Flying Burrito Brothers Newmarket branch anytime on a Wednesday and you’ll be surprised to find that their special for the day entails 2-4-1 wings! There’s absolutely no terms on this one so you can eat till your heart’s content.

Where: 65 Davis Cres, Newmarket, Auckland 1023

5. Al’s Deli – $12 Plate Of Wings

Al’s Deli is basically the king of comfort food in Auckland, bringing you doughnuts pumped to the brim, alongside the mystical poutine. So I’m a simple man, when I see a wings deal attached to the Al’s Deli name, I could not be more down.

What: Just stop by anytime on a Wednesday for their delicious special of the day, a $12 bowl of wings. You can get these bad boys in a range of flavours, hot sauce, BBQ, sweet and sour, or bloody mary! Delicious.

Where: 1/492 Queen St, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010

6. Malt Public House – 50c Wing Fridays

Malt Public House Chicken Wings

Malt Public House is the more funky version of your typical pub. A lot more vibrant, and a lot less sadness. Located in West Lynn village, it’s a relaxing atmosphere and the perfect place to wind down and devour some wings.

What: Malt Public House actually has two wing deals running on a weekly basis! Firstly, simply attend their free quiz night that runs on Mondays and nab wings for just $1! Also, start your weekend off right by popping in on a Friday evening between 5pm-7pm for crazy cheap 50c wings!

Where: 442 Richmond Rd, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021

7. The Flying Moa – $1 Wing Fridays

Another new-ish pub with a classic Kiwi feel. The Flying Moa is located in Mount Wellington and offers a homely vibe with quality daily deals to fit!

What: The Flying Moa is definitely where you want to spend your Fridays. Between 3pm-6pm you can nab buffalo wings for just $1 a pop! Alongside you can grab $9 cosmos all day long, so why not stick around for the live music starting at 7.30?

Where: 65 Lunn Ave, Mount Wellington, Auckland, 1072

8. Little Easy – $1 Wing Wednesdays

I am actually so hyped about this one. I have had Little Easy’s Korean flavoured wings before and BOY they are good. Situated in the heart on Ponsonby, Little Easy has that laid back Kiwi charm that has been missing as of late from pubs in Auckland.

What: Pop in on a Wednesday and you’re going to be absolutely treated to some the cheapest and best wings in town. Nab as many wings as you’d like for just $1! Flavours include BBQ, spicy, Korean, or original, all with sauce on the side. Better yet, Wednesday is their quiz night! So why not try your luck at winning a bar tab while you’re at it.

Where: 198 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby, Auckland, 1011

9. Birdies – $1 Wing Tuesdays

Birdie's Sylvia Park

Birdies is one of the many amazing eateries situated in the newish restaurant expansion within Sylvia Park. As you could’ve guessed by the name ‘Birdies’, their main focus is chicken, so you’re definitely in good hands as they dish out some delicious wings.

What: Anytime on a Tuesday at Birdies you can nab as many sticky, deep-fried buffalo wings as you’d like for the great price of just $1 each!

Where: 286 Mount Wellington Hwy, Mount Wellington, Auckland 1644

Christchurch

Coasters Tavern Wings

10. Coasters Tavern – 12 Wings for $6 on Wednesdays

Coasters Tavern is as wholesome as it gets, fitted with a relaxing courtyard, daily deals, social events, and strangers who are now your best friends, you’ll feel like you’ve gone back in time.

What: Stop by between 12pm-8pm on a Wednesday to nab 12 delicious wings for just $6! You can’t even get a double cheeseburger combo from Maccas for that price anymore. This place offers many different flavours to choose from, including BBQ, honey soy, Jamaican jerk, buffalo, salt n pepper, naked (just the wing), Moroccan, and devils xxxtra hot (yikes).

Where: 1 Daniels Rd, Redwood, Christchurch, 8051

11. Carlton – 50c Wing Wednesdays

The Carlton has been around since 1863, that is absolute madness. Though I can assure you they’ve updated the look since.

What: Just like every bar in Christchurch, pop in on a Wednesday between 12pm-8pm for tasty wings at just 50c each! You must order them by the dozen, which ends up being just $6 for the bunch. Where: 1 Papanui Rd, Merivale, Christchurch, 8014

12. Casa Publica – 12 Wings for $6 on Wednesdays

I’m being a little bias here, but this place sounds absolutely amazing. I mean who doesn’t want South American inspired wings?! Buffalo is out, rum and chipotle pineapple is in.

What: Visit anytime from 12pm on a Wednesday to nab 12 of the funkiest wings around for just $6! With some of the coolest flavours, choose between rum & chipotle pineapple, green chilli & coriander, or habanero chimichurri!

Where: 180 Armagh St, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch, 8011

Wellington

Tequila Joe's Chicken Wings

13. Tequila Joe’s – All You Can Eat Wednesdays

I am genuinely thinking of traveling to Wellington just to hit this restaurant. It is the only Mexican restaurant in Wellington with an open kitchen, and features one of my all time favourite deals, all you can eat!

What: On Wednesday from 5pm, and for just $25 with a drink or $29 without (honestly just order a coke, it’d be the same price) you can eat all the buffalo wings you want! These bad boys also come with baja fries as if it couldn’t get any better. There is a 2 hour time limit for bookings before 5pm, but I doubt that’ll matter. Also, kids 10 and under can nab this deal for half price!

Where: 43 Vivian St, Te Aro, Wellington, 6011

14. The Rogue & Vagabond – 77c Wing Wednesdays

The Rogue & Vagabond is one of those classic grunge-y Kiwi pubs. With a distinct focus on craft beer, you’re in for a good time.

Ah, the ‘Happy Hour’ a staple marketing ploy. Discount on drinks or food for a couple hours in the afternoon to lure those retiring for the day. Sounds like a solid idea right? The only problem is a lot of these promotions genuinely suck, often taking off $1 from their already expensive drinks.

So, I’ve decided to track down the select handful of ‘Happy Hour’ deals around Auckland that actually save you a decent amount of dosh and will leave you, well, happy.

1. Everybody’s – $5 Beer and Wine

If you’re unsure where to suggest for end of day drinks, look no further than Everybody’s, it’s perfect for everybody (see what I did there.) Right next door to Roxy, it’s an easy walking distance for everyone, offering a chill vibe, and of course very cheap ‘Happy Hour’ drinks!

What:

If you pop down on Tuesday-Saturday between the hours of 5pm to 7pmyou’ll be treated to their amazingly priced ‘Happy Hour’. Featuring $5 house wine and beer you definitely cannot go wrong (or get much cheaper.)

Where:

Imperial House Level 1/7 Fort Ln, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010.

2. Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen – $1 Hot Dogs

Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen - $1 Hot Dogs

Okay, I never said ‘Happy Hour’ was limited to drinks, it’s 2019 we’re all about diversity and Sweat Shop is personally one of my favourite places to go for a bite.

What:

Simply hit up Sweat Shop on a Wednesday after 5pm and you’ll be treated to $1 hot dogs! The only catch is you must purchase a beverage to wash down the deliciousness, but by buying just one drink you can have up to five hot dogs. I think this deal is what it means to be an entrepreneur.

Where:

7 Sale St, Freemans Bay, Auckland 1010.

3. Mexican Cafe – $5 Beer, Wine, and Tequila

This may just be call of the year, but Mexican Cafe’s ‘Happy Hour’ is the best in the Auckland CBD, there I said it. Situated in the heart of the city on Vic St West, flexing some of the cheapest drinks money can buy with a quality outdoor seating area, Mexican Cafe is a top city destination to unwind.

What:

Literally any day of the week between 5-7pm you can venture into Mexican Cafe and buy some extremely cheap drinks. For just one Sir Edmund ($5 for the uncultured swines) you can purchase a glass of chardonnay, sav, riesling, shiraz, tui, export gold, or a shot of good ol’ tequila. Alongside this there’s also $9 margaritas if you’re feeling fancy.

Where:

67 Victoria St W, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010.

4. Holey Moley – Pint, Pizza, and 9 Holes of Mini-Golf for $25

Holey Moley Cocktail

Holey Moley, an indoor bar centered around themed mini-golf courses, is the biggest craze in Auckland.  I mean who doesn’t love the idea of drunken mini-golf on a Simpsons themed hole while eating a delicious pizza? This is it, chief.

What:

Your Mondays and Tuesdays are actually about to become 100x better with this Holey Moley deal. Pop in between 5-7pm on the aforementioned days and your entire night is sorted, with a pint of cider or beer, a hefty pizza, and 9 holes of their oh-so-popular mini-golf costing you just $25!

Where:

204 Quay St, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010.

5. Al’s Deli – $5 Tap Beer and $6 Wine

Al’s Deli is the beautiful Canadian restaurant located midway up Queen St that brought us both the legendary poutine burger, and donuts with syringes. So you know damn well they’re going to have a quality ‘Happy Hour’ to match.

What:

Stop on by any weekday that suits between 3-6pm and you can nab both $5 glasses of tap beer and $6 house wines. Better yet, between Monday-Thursday Al’s Deli also has amazing daily specials on their delicious food you can pair this ‘Happy Hour’ with, including burgers, ribs, and wings! Gotta love Canada.

Where:

1/492 Queen St, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010.

6. Rydges – Rooftop Friday Specials

Rydges Rooftop DJ

I know what you’re thinking, Rydges is spendy, and it can be. But you can’t just rate a ‘Happy Hour’ based on how cheap it is, sometimes it’s the experience that makes it so worth it. Don’t worry, the drinks are still well priced, and this is probably the coolest ‘Happy Hour’ in the Auckland CBD so bare with me.

What:

Every Friday from 4pm, basically when everyone is ready to quit adulting for the week, Rydges has us absolutely covered. It is at this time where they open up their beautiful rooftop terrace to their patrons to kick the weekend off right with live music to match. While soaking up the views and enjoying the music you can nab $8 spirits, wines, and beers, alongside tasty $10 cocktails, a really good price to pay for a quality start to your evening.

Where:

59 Federal St, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010.

7. Headquarters – All Day ‘Happy Hour’ Till Sunset

Headquarters Viaduct Bar

Headquarters automatically makes it on this list because who doesn’t want to unwind on a lounger while looking over the Viaduct in the hot Summer sun? On top of this they’ve got some banging deals on drinks to go alongside this quality setup.

What:

I don’t know how I feel about calling this one a ‘Happy Hour’ when it literally runs for 7 or 8 hours everyday, but I make the rules so here we are. Simply pop on by between the hours of 11am and whenever the sunsets, which is typically between 6pm and 8pm (depending on the time of year), and you’re in for a treat. With $5 wines, $25 bottles, $10 margaritas, and $20 jugs of Monteith’s Golden Lager you’re absolutely sorted for after uni/work drinks, or a full day of drinking, your choice.

Where:

115 Customs St W, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010.

8. Freeman & Grey – $7 Wine and Beer

I don’t think Freemans needs any introduction, this is definitely one of the most well known bars in Auckland because of their near mythological daily $5 pizza special. Although, it’s this pizza special that overshadows their quality drink deals that runs alongside it. I mean, a $5 pizza with a $7 beer, what a match made in heaven.

What:

For this one you do have to sign up to Freeman & Grey’s ‘Best Friends’ loyalty club, which is completely free, and I mean you do get a free pizza and a $10 voucher to help sweeten the deal. So, once you’re a member you then have access to their $7 house beer and wine drink special! The good news is this runs everyday of the week, for as long as their open, making this the quality spot for when you want a cheap drink at any point in the day.

Where:

43 Ponsonby Rd, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1011.

Top 10 Restaurant Month Deals for Students /blog/discounts/top-10-restaurant-month-deals-for-students/ /blog/discounts/top-10-restaurant-month-deals-for-students/#respond Fri, 16 Aug 2019 02:09:00 +0000 /?p=4122 LEARN HOW TO EAT LIKE KINGS IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST.

American Express ‘Restaurant Month’ is possibly the greatest annual event held in Auckland.

How It Works

Restaurant Month runs through the entire month of August (as in it’s on now!) where participating restaurants create special $25, $40, and $55+ set menus

There are a lot of these menus from a whole heap of different restaurants, so I thought I’d rate them all and give you my top 10 to make the task of deciding where to go a bit easier! Oh, and of course we’re only looking at the $25 menus because we’re all about getting the best quantity and quality at the lowest price!

Note: It is recommended that you book a table when visiting any of these restaurants to ensure you can take advantage of their delicious and cheap menus!

My Top 10 $25 Deals

1. Green Time – 2 Course Meal and Hot Beverage

Green Time Hero

Green Time is an amazing vegan eatery found on Fort Street, with the most homely vibe you’ll ever find. Everything there is made from scratch, nothing is fried, and the food is refined sugar free! But don’t be fooled as that doesn’t take away from the flavour at all.

What: Pop into Green Time for either lunch or dinner and you can nab their special $25 main and dessert with a hot beverage deal. They have a few classic options to choose from for the main dish, with ‘chicken’ pasta, Thai green curry, or nachos. And for dessert you’re absolutely treated to either lemon meringue, a banoffee tart, or a chocolate brownie made from (wait for it) Whittaker’s chocolate. To top it off you also get a coffee or tea of your choice to compliment the meal!

Where: 28 Fort St, Auckland CBD.

Vegetarian Friendly: Yes, completely vegan.

Conditions: None.

2. Gourmet Burger & Brew Kitchen – 3 Course Meal and Beer

So, this may be my favourite place in the whole world. I mean who doesn’t want a delicious burger with alcohol whilst perched up in the viaduct?! Better yet, who doesn’t want 27 different burgers to choose from?

What: I know you must think the title is a typo, but it’s isn’t, Gourmet Burger & Brew Kitchen are offering a full 3 course meal during both dinner and lunch alongside a glass of beer as their contribution to Restaurant Month. Starting with the entree you can choose from prawn cutlets, prawn twisters, or bacon wedges (for those not seafood inclined.) To follow up with the main course you simply choose anyone of their unique 27 burgers (this is when I’d be downing my glass of beer), and then you’ve got a wholesome cupcake of your choice to finish it off for dessert!

Where: 139 Quay St, Auckland CBD.

Vegetarian Friendly: No, it is pescatarian though.

Conditions: None.
